Station Agent Terminal

Introduction

In the course of developing comprehensive systemwide applications which automate the fare collection aspect of mass transit agencies, specialized implementations are developed which focus tightly on one job function and bring all needed data, communications and control functions together to create an efficient work environment.

As an example, the Station Agent Terminal implementation we have developed allows a station agent in a mass transit station to acquire accurate information regarding the status of equipment in his or her station, allows control of equipment, allows e-mail and other communications, and includes help functions such as training manuals, procedures manuals, and video training modules to be incorporated into an operator terminal at the station location.

Example of Station Agent Terminal Operation

Station Floor Layout

From this view the operator can (if permissions allow) reverse the direction of gates, turn equipment on and off, inquire as to the monetary contents of a vending machine or the ticket supplies, and view any performance or sales data available at the station of equipment level. In this demonstration we will show the options available in the configuration of faregates.

Via a menu selection, the Station Agent can make numerous different changes to the configuration of a station. A reconfiguration begins with the selection of the desired action.

Pull-down Menu Selections

At this time a command box opens on the desktop which indicates the present configuration of the faregates.

Default Gate Configuration

Numerous help functions are available which cover every action which can be taken.

Station Agent Help Window

As an example, the Station Agent now selects to configure the gates to "Free Wheel" in the exit direction.

New Gate Configuration

The new configuration of the gate array is now displayed on the Station Agent Terminal.

This is one example of the type of resource which can be given to the employee at his or her workstation. We have developed other such implementations in the past including specialized Police/Security monitoring terminals and Revenue/Financial user interfaces.
